‘OpenOffice’ is a generic name for office suites that are derived from a proprietary and no longer existing product called StarOffice. Currently popular versions are LibreOffice and Apace OpenOffice. OpenOffice is a genuine Open Source office suite for a vast range of desktop platforms, including GNU/Linux, Windows, Solaris and Mac/OSX.

Squirrel Consultancy uses OpenOffice whenever possible and we'll be glad to share our experience with you.

A very important aspect of OpenOffice is the use of open standards for saving and exchanging documents. OpenOffice.org uses the ISO/IEC 26300 standard OpenDocument Format. This guarantees that you will be able to access your own information now and in the future.
